Ukrainian Hearts is a non-profit voluntary community organisation dedicated to supporting Ukrainians in the Lewes district.
We know from our own experience that moving to a new country comes with challenges, and we are here to help Ukrainians navigate life in the UK while staying connected to our roots.
We also share Ukrainian heritage with our British friends through cultural events and community initiatives, fostering understanding and unity. 🫂
At Ukrainian Hearts, we see how united hearts can make the world brighter and kinder.
We firmly believe that even the smallest efforts can change the world. Every act of kindness and help, every outstretched hand in dark times, is a ray of light that gives hope, strength, and faith.

With over 20 years of experience as an ESOL teacher, I’ve always believed in the power of language to connect and uplift people. After arriving in the UK in 2022, I chose to utilise my skills to support both fellow Ukrainians displaced by war and the kind-hearted English people here who are helping us rebuild our lives.
Volunteering has become a vital part of my journey—it gives me purpose and hope. I’m especially passionate about supporting vulnerable children in Ukraine who are bravely fighting cancer.
I believe that every step or action can make a difference!

Volunteering is a conscious choice that gives meaning to my life. I focus especially on helping children in Ukraine who are seriously ill and living through the hardships of war. These children face pain and fear every day, and their parents carry a double burden — fighting for their children’s health and survival.
When I came to the UK, I met many kind and supportive people who shared their homes, their bread, and their hearts with us. That kindness deeply changed my values and outlook on life.
Now I feel a strong need to give back — to support others, bring hope where it’s needed most, and keep the chain of compassion going.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, I had to leave my home and seek safety in the UK with my children.
Experiencing the fear, uncertainty, and hardship that war brings made me deeply understand how vulnerable children are in times of crisis.
That’s why I dedicated myself to supporting children, helping them feel safe, joyful, and included – even far from home.
Becoming a volunteer was not just a decision; it became a part of who I am. This work gives me purpose and allows me to give back to the Ukrainian community and every child in need of warmth and care.
It’s my way of building hope and healing, one small step at a time.
